Dr Stan Papoulias

Research Fellow

Stan is an academic and long-term user of mental health services who trained and worked in cultural studies for many years. They joined the Service User Research Enterprise (SURE) at KCL in 2012 and are currently funded by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South London to undertake qualitative research on aspects of patient and public involvement practice (PPI). They are working on a multi-method qualitative study on the emergence and working conditions of ‘PPI practitioners/workforce’. While Stan is working across health fields, they are primarily interested in mental health and in survivor-led, participatory and visual methods in qualitative work. Stan is keen to bring in perspectives from the arts and the humanities to health research and investigate how different methodologies may inform our understanding of ‘experience’.
