Iona will share results from her PhD project, which aimed to explore perceptions of the relationship between identity and mental health, and understand how this varied within and between intersectional social identities. She will discuss the background and methodological justification for the project, reflect on the research process, and consider how these results relate to our understanding of mental health inequalities.
Iona is a final year PhD student based in the Social, Genetic, and Developmental Psychiatry Centre. Her research uses quantitative and qualitative methods to explore how environmental risk factors, treatment experiences, and identity influence inequalities in anxiety and depression across minoritised groups. Her work explores inequalities related to gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, and incorporates extensive patient and public involvement.
