The effects of the asylum process on mental health

This ESRC funded PhD project aims to understand the mental health effects of the UK asylum process on Afghan and Iranians. Qualitative methods used were walking interviews (interviews following a route decided on by the participant and relevant to the research question) and in-depth interview.

Around 40 interviews were conducted on topics including conceptions of mental health, factors effecting people's mental health, mental health during the asylum process, and sources of mental health support as well as coping strategies.
