Dr Chanelle Myrie

Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Fellow

Chanelle is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and a PhD Fellow. She studied Psychology and Philosophy as an undergraduate at the University of Warwick, and completed her DClinPsych at the University of East London. Her clinical doctoral thesis focused on exploring young Black men’s conceptualisations of wellbeing, and how this related to their help-seeking behaviour, and was awarded the Dean of School prize. She has previously worked academically as a lecturer on the clinical doctorate programme at the University of East London, and clinically in a range of secondary care mental health services.

As a therapist, Chanelle is particularly interested in exploring the relationship between issues of intersectionality & identity and mental health & wellbeing using a variety of therapeutic models. She actively attempts to destigmatise mental distress by designing and delivering accessible and acceptable therapeutic interventions to individuals, families and groups. Her research centres Black communities, including experiences of helpseeking, mental health services and both clinical and non clinical interventions, and has included partnerships with third sector organisations. Her PhD project focuses on designing a culturally tailored digital mental wellbeing intervention specifically for people from Black communities.
