Sohail is researching the effects of the asylum process on mental health using walking interviews, in-depth interviews, as well as poetic and thematic analysis. Alongside this, he is looking at how researchers should work with migrants, migrant communities and migrant organisations in an equitable and non-exploitative way, conducting an ethnography of participatory action research projects. These projects used qualitative questionnaires, focus groups and collage. Sohail has also published a narrative analysis on people’s experience of the asylum process using theatre transcripts and conducted a photovoice project with Nigerian refugees in Italy. He has applied his qualitative research skills in the public, private and third sectors.
